CEOs of Apple, Microsoft and other companies are subpoenaed to investigate the reasons for political censorship of content.
Representatives of the US Republican Party are investigating the heads of Apple, Amazon, Alphabet (Google's parent company), Meta and Microsoft to find out if the companies interacted with the US government in the matter of content moderation, especially on the topic of politics and COVID-19.
Republicans argue that big tech companies are restricting conservative views and perspectives on their platforms with content moderation tools. The CEOs of the five companies must submit content moderation documents by March 23, 2023.
It is noted that the court did not subpoena Twitter CEO Elon Musk, who was not affected by the investigation, to the judicial committee, possibly due to the publication of internal documents of the company and the unblocking of the account of former US President Donald Trump on this platform. In addition, Elon Musk already met with a representative of the judicial committee in January of this year.
