According to researchers from Slowmist Hacked and Atlas VPN, in 2022, the amount of cryptocurrency stolen by hackers from various blockchain platforms amounted to $3.5 billion.

The main targets of the cybercriminals were the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) ecosystem and cross-chain bridges. Together, they lost more than $2 billion in 92 attacks. In particular, 16 attacks were made on cross-chain bridges and $1.2 billion was stolen, and $ВSC lost more than $870 million as a result of 76 attacks.

The Ethereum ecosystem is not far behind: it lost more than $500 million in 49 attacks. Other crypto projects and platforms fell victim to 48 hacks, which led to losses of almost $370 million. Fraudsters earned $90 million from stealing NFT tokens during 57 attacks.

In total, 301 incidents related to cybercrime were registered on the crypto market in 2022, which is a 27% increase compared to the previous year. In addition, despite a relative decrease in the number of hacker attacks in the second half of last year, their total number for the year was a record.

In addition, the authors of the report did not include losses associated with the collapse of FTX in the statistics, since the total volume has not yet been established.
