Poloniex, a cryptocurrency exchange, has offered a $10 million reward to a hacker who stole $114 million from the exchange. The attacker can choose between a reward and being prosecuted worldwide. The Poloniex team has successfully found the hacker, who was sent a message through a blockchain transaction aimed at the attacker's digital address.
The message, in Chinese, English, Russian, and Korean, stated that "police forces" from Russia, China, and the US are already working on the case. The stolen money was marked for tracking and cannot be used. The deadline is November 25, 2023, and if the deadline is not met, police from several countries will start looking for him. A user offered to help find the hacker in exchange for 386 ETH lost in the Euler Finance DeFi protocol hack in March.
Poloniex was hit by a major cyberattack in November, costing the company over $100 million. After the hack, Justin Sun offered the hacker 5% of the stolen money if he gave it back on his own. The hacker did not respond. Poloniex is almost done with the steps needed to return to normal trading and has started strict security checks to make it safer from threats.
