Norwegian authorities have said they have confiscated 60 million kr (nearly $5.9 million) worth of stolen cryptocurrencies as part of an investigation into the attack on Sky Mavis and its game Axie Infinity.
The statement notes that this is the largest confiscation of cryptocurrencies ever carried out by the Norwegian police and one of the largest confiscations of cash ever made in Norway. The authorities continue to work with the FBI to trace the stolen cryptocurrency.
Norwegian law enforcement became the second to return the cryptocurrency stolen from Axie Infinity. The US government did it first in September with the help of blockchain analysts and FBI agents. They managed to seize $30 million worth of stolen cryptocurrency from the Lazarus group. This was the first case in history of seizing stolen cryptocurrency from a group of North Korean hackers.
Recall that on March 23, 2022, it became known about the theft of a cryptocurrency in the amount of about $625 million from the Ronin blockchain, which underlies the popular crypto game Axie Infinity. None of the hacker groups officially announced the hack. However, US authorities have determined that the digital currency address used by the hackers is under the control of the North Korean hacker group Lazarus.
