The developers of Flipper Zero on their Twitter account reported that PayPal returned to them 74% of the money ($980,000) of the previously frozen $1.3 million. However, to “mitigate possible claims,” the payment system continues to hold $350,000. At the same time, all customer orders paid with this money have already been delivered a long time ago.
The Flipper Zero team clarified that they will continue to investigate this issue with PayPal.
In the summer of 2022, Flipper Zero opened sales of devices. Users had the opportunity to pay for the order using a card or PayPal. Moreover, the second payment option was chosen by more than half of the customers.
A few days after the start of sales, PayPal requested some documents from the developers as part of the compliance process, which were promptly provided by Flipper Zero. Later in September, the PayPal payment system blocked the business account of the company for the production of "tamagotchi for hackers", and froze the funds for more than 2 months without explaining the reasons.
According to Flipper Zero, PayPal tech support didn't know what was going on. At the same time, the financial situation was quite critical. The blocked funds were required by the company for the production of a new batch of devices.
