The Dutch Healthcare Medical Testing Service (GGD) has recently become increasingly popular among drug users who want to test their drugs for unsafe substances, writes the Volkskrant newspaper.
The Dutch have concerns about what is in their drugs.
The GGD Amsterdam testing center tries to give every visitor at least an idea of the content of their drug by conducting a quick acid test. This can show if the substance is what it claims to be, explained Mirjam Reitsma, coordinator of the drug testing service at GGD Amsterdam.
In 2019, the service tested medicines for almost 18,000 people. During the pandemic, the demand for this service decreased, but now it is rapidly gaining momentum again. “This year we are expecting about 20,000 visitors, which will be a new record,” said Smith-Rigter, national coordinator of the Drug Information and Monitoring System (DIMS).
According to GGD, queues accumulate at the service - and sometimes you have to tell people that they do not have the opportunity to test the substance they are interested in.
