Arne Schönbohm is suspected of collaborating with the Russian special services.
German Minister of the Interior and Local Communities Nancy Feser will soon dismiss the head of the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), Arne Schönbom. He is suspected of having links with the Russian special services. This is reported by Spiegel and Bild, citing government sources.
Claims against Shenbom arose after the broadcast of the ZDF TV channel, which spoke of Shenbom's connections with the German Cybersecurity Council association, which in turn may be associated with the Russian special services. Arne Schönbom was a co-founder of the Council and chaired it until 2016.
The fact is that the Protelion company, formerly known as Infotecs GmbH, was a member of the Council. According to the Policy Network Analytics research network, it is a branch of the Russian company Infotecs, founded by former KGB officer Andrei Chapchaev. At the same time, it is indicated that Protelion entered the Council after the departure of Schönbom.
Representatives of the German Interior Ministry, in response to a request from Spiegel about the imminent dismissal of Schönbom, said that they were "considering all options." According to Handelsblatt, the ministry will cancel Schönbom and Feather's scheduled October 13 joint press conference.
