  • The most dangerous cybercriminal in Spain turned out to be a 19-year-old teenager

Spanish police have arrested José Luis Huertas (aka "Alcaseca", "Mango" or "Chimichuri"), a 19-year-old teenager who is considered the most dangerous hacker in the country. Huertas is reportedly responsible for several high-profile cyberattacks against Spanish government institutions, as well as for creating his own cybercriminal system called "El Ojo de Horus" ("Eye of Horus"), designed specifically to sell stolen confidential information on the dark web.

A police investigation launched in November 2022 eventually led to the identification and arrest of a young cybercriminal described as a "serious threat to Spain's national security". In the house of Huertas, as well as at other addresses registered to him, law enforcement officers seized large amounts of cash, documentation and computers that will help solve all the hacker's crimes.

Investigators became seriously interested in Huertas after hacking into the computer network of the National Judicial Council of Spain (CGPJ). During this attack, the attacker stole the data of 575,000 taxpayers in order to sell it to other cybercriminals. The stolen information included personal details, account numbers and more.

Huertas is also accused of impersonating the CEO of the television company Gestevisión Telecinco/Mediaset España and stealing 300,000 euros from him. And multiple cyber attacks on Spanish government institutions and money laundering only add to the list of his crimes. With each attack, Huertas grew bolder, to the point that he even gave an interview on YouTube in which he claimed that he had access to information about 90% of all Spanish citizens.

According to local media reports, the Spanish police were able to track down the young hacker by tracking the receipt of funds for hosting the aforementioned Eye of Horus system created by Huertas. Although the cybercriminal used the cryptocurrency “purified” with the help of mixing services, the police were still able to trace some payments with the help of experts from the National Cryptological Center of Spain.

Huertas will remain in custody until his trial as investigators believe there is a huge risk that he will escape, destroy evidence and continue to commit crimes of a similar nature. The judge also motivated his decision to keep the suspect in custody by the fact that the young man has significant reserves of cryptocurrency that would allow him to live anywhere in the world, forever avoiding Spanish justice.
