In narcology, euphoria is considered a phenomenon that is an integral part of the drug intoxication syndrome. In this state, the normal state of the psyche and various somatic sensations of a person who is in a state of drug intoxication change dramatically. In a broader sense of the word, euphoria includes not only emotional changes, but also a whole range of different somatic and mental feelings, as a result of which a positive emotional shift is achieved.
The structure of euphoria has its differences for the state of intoxication and depends entirely on the drugs used. So the state of euphoria caused by the use of sleeping pills and alcohol is composed only of emotional changes combined with pleasant intellectual and motor inhibition. When using opium, euphoria is characterized by a state of somatic pleasure against a general background of emotional peace and bliss, without a state of intellectual retardation. When using various types of stimulants, a positive emotional shift is of a secondary nature and is caused by intellectual and physical enlightenment, a sharp sense of a general rise in vital activity.
When using psychedelic drugs and marijuana, euphoria has as its root cause changes in perception and thinking, some kind of special fantastic, even mystical state of consciousness. Despite such a variety of mental changes that occur in a state of intoxication from various narcotic drugs, it can also be noted that the more the following symptoms appear, the more intense euphoria an individual can experience:
dissociation of mental activity,
uncontrollable mental activity,
protopathic sensations - their inexplicability, lack of accountability and depth.
The euphoria of various types of drug intoxication is inherently a dynamic phenomenon that includes a number of successive phases. The state of euphoria is most felt in dynamics, during the transition from an individual's normal or bad mood to an extremely elevated one. The nature and duration of each phase when taking the same narcotic drug may vary depending on the subjective attitude of the individual, as well as on the method of administration of the narcotic drug. Also, this phase is associated, first of all, with the stage of the disease - in the dynamics of each type of drug addiction, euphoria undergoes significant changes.
