  • 23-year-old cyber scammer stole $400,000 from a chain of hairdressers and paid for it

Now the young man faces a huge sentence for his crimes.

The US Department of Justice announced the arrest of a suspect as US Attorney Damian Williams filed charges in New York federal court against 23-year-old Foster Cooley of Arizona. According to Williams, Cooley was involved in a scheme to break into the barbershop chain and steal more than $400,000, which was supposed to come into the account of the victim company, but was sent to the attackers. The crimes of the young man remained unsolved for some time, as he and his accomplices stole money without going into any of the salons.

Cooley is accused of using malware to steal usernames and passwords belonging to employees of a hairdressing firm that has salons in New York, New Jersey and Colorado. Having obtained the necessary information, the criminal used it to gain access to the credit cards of the branches, which were stored in the Internet browsers of the victims.

With access to the affiliates' credit cards, Cooley changed the bank accounts, redirecting all payments from the hairdressing firm's customers to accounts controlled by himself and his associates.

Cooley was arrested in an FBI operation and is now facing serious criminal charges for his cybercrimes: for a single count of wire fraud, the maximum sentence is 20 years, and for damaging a protected computer through fraud, the maximum sentence is 10 years. years.
