  • Anonymous knocked out the Yanluowang ransomware gang from the cybercriminal arena

The Yanluowang ransomware temporarily ceased operations after an anonymous user named Yanluowangleaks posted on Twitter a large set of data with inside information of the group. Now any user can get acquainted with the source code of the decryptor, various tools of the ransomware gang, and even read the contents of Yanluowang's internal chats.

The Yanluowangleaks account said it would continue to publish data stolen from cybercriminals. And while the owner of the account has not provided any information about his origins or connection to Yanluowang, he seems to be planning to permanently throw the group out of the cybercriminal arena.

For specialists, this data leak was a real gift: they got some idea of how Yanluowang works from the inside and learned that most of the group's operators are Russian-speaking hackers.

We also managed to find out the attitude of members of the group to high-profile news that relates to other cybercriminals, for example, to the arrest of REvil by Russian law enforcement agencies in January.

According to experts, the shutdown of Yanluowang will not lead to a significant reduction in the overall number of ransomware attacks. As Colin Cowie, an information security specialist at Sophos Managed Threat Response, said, in the ocean of cybercriminals, Yanluowang is a small fish.
