Deputy US Attorney General Lisa O. Monaco said that agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested in Miami one of the founders of the Bitzlato crypto exchange, Anatoly Legkodymov, a citizen of the Russian Federation.
This was reported on the website of the US Department of Justice. The allegations allege that Legkodymov ran Bitzlato as a high-tech financial center that, in his own words, catered to "notorious scammers," Monaco said.
According to a statement by Monaco, the servers of the Bitzlato crypto exchange, which is associated with the Hydra darknet market, were detained as part of an international law enforcement cooperation. She clarified that the arrest of the founder of the crypto exchange and the actions taken against the crypto exchange are a warning to anyone involved in illegal activities on the dark web.
Legkodymov reportedly operated crypto exchanges for the past year while residing in Miami and was aware that many users received funds illegally. If found guilty on the charges, he could face up to 5 years in prison.
