The hacker group Killnet, whose activities are usually associated with Russia, continues to interfere with the work of various organizations based in the United States. DDoS attacks are back in action. And the purpose of cybercriminals this time was the medical sector of the country.
“The largest DDoS attack on the US medical sector is announced. The list of targets included corporate networks of hospitals, providers of online medical services,” the message published on the group’s Telegram channel says. In total, the list of attackers includes about 70 websites affecting medical organizations in dozens of US states.
While Killnet claims that coordinated attacks seriously impact targeted institutions, the actual impact of DDoS attacks is still being debated by American security experts. However, experts advise against underestimating Killnet, as their attacks can often detract from more technical background operations.
The group has been very active in recent weeks. Previously, there were Killnet attacks on the medical sector in Europe and the United States, which were carried out using the Passion botnet. And judging by messages on the gang’s Telegram channel, Killnet representatives are actively recruiting other hacker associations to expand the scope of their attacks.
