  • NoName057(16) attacked Avast websites in response to criticism

Hackers from the NoName057(16) team claimed to have carried out DDoS attacks on Avast Software websites, but foreign experts deny their effectiveness.

Previously, the pro-Russian hacktivist group NoName057(16) attacked Ukrainian and NATO organizations using DDoS attacks. The group has expanded its botnet to over 1,000 members, offering financial rewards for successful attacks. The group targets government organizations and critical infrastructure, according to security researchers.

Analysts at security vendor Avast have revealed a coordinated cyberwarfare campaign that a hacktivist group has dubbed DDosia. NoName057(16) reportedly called on volunteers to join their activities, including DDoS attacks on "anti-Russian" targets.

Users seeking financial rewards, whom the group calls "heroes," run the file on their computer, which is then associated with a unique identifier. This ID can be linked to a crypto wallet and if the participant carries out enough attacks, they get paid.

Cybercriminals from the NoName057(16) team reported their attacks on Avast Software websites in order to prove their effectiveness and demonstrate that they can cause problems for the company. In their Telegram channel, the group writes:

“Today we visited the Internet infrastructure of this Czech IT company. We have demonstrated our effectiveness in practice.”
“To be honest, there are specialists on the other side who are difficult to work against. One way or another, we came and now Avast is busy working to correct its own mistakes and our possible presence in their network,” the Russian hackers said.
