    Yesterday, the US Department of Energy announced that a professor at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has accepted a scientific breakthrough, which is that an inertial fusion reaction generates more energy than it took to create it.

    The results of an experiment conducted at the National Ignition Facility (NIF) lab on December 5th were revealed today. The researchers stated that they completed 3.15 MJ of fusion energy output while using 2.05 MJ to start the fusion reaction. During the experiment, LLNL achieved thermonuclear ignition (ignition) in the reactor and received more energy from the reaction than was invested.

    To create fusion ignition, the energy of 192 lasers (2.05 MHz), which are converted into artistic beams inside the holraum (a small chamber, a structure that converts laser radiation into apparent beams), compresses a grain-sized fuel capsule until it will explode, suspicion of ultra-high temperature and high pressure plasma.


    During this reaction, the synthesis of a helium nucleus and neutrons occurs. In theory, relatively clean energy can be used, for example, by converting neutron energy into heat for use in steam turbine operation and power generation.

    To realize this initiative, LLNL built NIF, a US$3.5 billion international and international high power laser system. NIF lasers detect temperatures and pressures such as those found in the cores of stars and giant planets, as well as inside exploding weapons.

    “Fusion ignition in a laboratory is one of the most important scientific challenges ever possible, and achieving it is a triumph for science, engineering and, above all, people,” said Kim Boudil, director of LLNL.

    The results of the experiment are really impressive, but this nuclear fusion is still far from using the energy of energy. The initial energy required to launch the laser beams is 322 MJ, with 2.05 MJ delivered to the fuel capsule to cause it to explode. The "output" is only 3.15 MJ - this is too much loss, NIF nuclear fusion has become a full-fledged energy core.
