  • What are inhalants?

    Terrible drugs are hidden under this name, which consist of gases and volatile substances.

    In fact, all of them are sold in ordinary stores, because among inhalants there are most of all household and technical chemicals. A similar type of drug addiction - substance abuse - has been known since the beginning of the 19th century, when teenagers and older people began to practice inhaling glue and gasoline fumes.

    One of the substances used by drug addicts are deliriants. These are medicines (cyclodol, diphenhydramine) and plants (belladonna and dope, etc.), which block the natural mechanisms of neuromuscular transmission.

    Among the main varieties of this drug can be distinguished:

    1.Aerosols for domestic purposes. These are a variety of gas deodorants, glass and furniture cleaners, air fresheners, etc.
    2. Solvents. This category includes not only household solvents used for construction purposes, but also means for refilling felt-tip pens, gasoline and petroleum products.
    3. Gas concentrates. Here, hazardous substances can be divided into two subcategories: gases of pharmacy origin and household gases. For some reason, pharmaceutical preparations such as nitrous oxide or chloroform in the free market are quite problematic to get. But household analogues (gas for refilling lighters, etc.) are quite common substances, and you can buy them without any problems.
    4.Nitrites. This category also applies to pharmaceutical origin. Among the most common drugs are a variety of substances containing nitrites, amyl nitrite, butyl and much more.

    Usage symptoms

    If the person who initially used it experiences only lightness and pleasure, then soon there will be completely different changes:

    impaired coordination of movements;
    falls occur due to loss of balance;
    speech is disturbed;
    causeless laughter;
    there is a feeling of fear.

    Methods of use

    For inhalation, paper, polyethylene or plastic bags are used, in which cotton wool or a rag moistened with a volatile drug is placed. The bag is put on the head or the face is immersed in it, and the hands tightly press the bag. The first method is the most dangerous, since a child or teenager can suffocate, lose consciousness. If he inhales the inhalant with a full mouth, he may vomit and choke on the vomit.

    Also used are tubes made of tin, rags soaked in an inhalant - they are applied to the nose.

    There is also such a way - part of the hair on the head is shaved at biologically active points, a rag moistened with an inhalant is placed on this place, and a headdress is put on top. With this method, anesthesia can occur even in public places. Teenagers sit in groups on a bench in the yard or in the park, silent and frozen, with hats pulled down over their foreheads or faces, and indulge in their visions.

    The effect of inhalants on the body

    Having inhaled, harmful compounds instantly enter the body, starting their action. The brain is the first to be hit, disrupting the functioning of the nervous system. Rapid breathing, oxygen starvation, strong heartbeat are noticed. Gradually, hallucinations appear.

    In addition to the inhibition of various biochemical reactions, a pathogenic effect on the receptors of the brain is observed, and a person experiences a hallucinogenic effect of the drug (it is directly due to its toxic effect). Intoxication with inhalants can go according to different scenarios, up to the tragic.

    Consequences of use

    Short term hazards:

    Intoxication
    Loss of consciousness
    Heart failure
    Suffocation
    Injury to the mouth, throat, and lungs
    High risk of death

    Long term hazards:

    Brain, liver and kidney damage
    hearing loss
    Damage to the central nervous system
    vision damage
    Spasms of the limbs
    Blackouts of consciousness
    Cognitive impairment
    Bone marrow damage
    Damage to the immune system
    High risk of death

    Other dangerous consequences:

    Sudden death from suffocation

    Such death can result from a single inhalation, even in healthy individuals. It is often associated with the abuse of butane, propane, and chemicals in aerosols.
