  • FBI concerned about Apple's implementation of encryption in iCloud

Apple's initiative to increase the security of its services has faced criticism from US law enforcement.

The FBI praised Apple's efforts to implement end-to-end encryption in the iCloud cloud service. The Washington Post writes about it.

The FBI has expressed concern about the threat to end-to-end encryption for the safety of citizens. "The initiative hinders our work to protect the American people from criminal activities ranging from cyberattacks and violence against children to drug trafficking, organized crime and terrorism," the agency said in a statement.

Representatives of the Bureau stressed that law enforcement agencies must have deliberate lawful access to electronic devices.

“It's great to see companies prioritize security, but we must remember that there are trade-offs, and one that is often overlooked is the impact it [security] has on law enforcement's access to digital evidence. The big question is: who decides this compromise? It's still in the hands of Apple," Sasha O'Connell, executive director of American University, former division chief of the NYTimes Federal Bureau of Investigation, was quoted as saying.
