Google Threat Analysis Group (TAG) experts have reported a possible connection between the Heliconia hacker toolkit and Barcelona-based Variston IT. According to experts, the tools can be used not only against Chrome and Firefox, but also against Microsoft Defender.
“Heliconia provides everything you need to deploy the payload on the target device,” Google said. The IT giant learned about this from an anonymous informant who gave the company's researchers a lot of important information about Heliconia. The information received helped Google specialists during the investigation.
And while the security holes used by the toolkit have been fixed, TAG researchers believe that hackers actively used them before the patches.
Variston declined to respond to the experts' accusations, saying it operates within "appropriate international and national legal frameworks."
