The developer of the popular password manager LastPass said he had opened an investigation into a breach of the cloud storage he used with its subsidiary GoTo.
"We recently discovered unusual activity on a third-party cloud storage service currently used by both LastPass and its subsidiary GoTo," LastPass CEO Karim Toubba said in a statement.
To break into the cloud storage, hackers used data obtained during the August incident.
However, there is good news - company representatives said that customer passwords did not fall into the hands of cybercriminals and remain securely encrypted thanks to the LastPass Zero Knowledge architecture.
LastPass reported the incident to law enforcement and hired Mandiant to investigate the incident. The company stressed that it will continue to implement additional security measures to detect and stop further hacker attacks.
